Pink Lemonade is a USDA-bred blueberry with real pink berries — sweet and mild with a hint of lemon — plus white spring flowers and red fall color. It ships as a live plant in a 1-gallon pot and, like every blueberry, needs acidic soil (pH 4.5–5.5) and steady moisture.

Description

Scientific name: Vaccinium 'Pink Lemonade'

Yes, they’re really pink. Pink Lemonade is a USDA-bred blueberry with sweet, mild, rose-colored berries, white spring flowers and red fall color — as good on a patio as in the berry patch. You get a live plant in a 1-gallon pot. It’s self-fertile, with bigger crops beside a second blueberry, and like every blueberry it needs acidic soil (pH 4.5–5.5) or a pot of acidic mix. Can’t ship to AK or HI.

You receive a live plant in a 1-gallon pot, shipped in its pot with the root ball intact. Pink Lemonade needs a moderate amount of winter chill (around 500 hours), is self-fertile, and produces larger, heavier crops when another blueberry variety grows nearby for cross-pollination. Like every blueberry, it insists on one thing: acidic soil. Give it pH 4.5–5.5, steady moisture, and sun, and it is an easy, productive, long-lived bush.

Planting & Care

Watering: Blueberries have shallow, fibrous roots with no root hairs — they dry out fast and hate both drought and soggy soil. At planting, water the pot well, then water in with 1–2 gallons. First week: check daily and water whenever the surface begins to dry, typically every 1–2 days in warm weather at about ½–1 gallon per session. First month: water deeply about three times a week (roughly 1 gallon each time) if rain is lacking. First season: keep the root zone consistently moist, aiming for 1–1.5 inches of water per week, split into two or three sessions totaling about 3–5 gallons. Established bushes want about 5 gallons per week during dry spells, especially from fruit set to harvest. Rainwater or acidified water is ideal in alkaline-water areas.

Sun & soil: Full sun gives the sweetest, pinkest fruit. Soil must be acidic — pH 4.5–5.5 — loose, and rich in organic matter. Test before planting; amend with peat moss or composted pine bark, and lower pH with elemental sulfur if needed. Mulch 2–4 inches deep with pine bark or pine straw. In containers, use an acidic (ericaceous) potting mix.

Feeding: Feed in early spring and again in late spring with an acid-forming fertilizer made for blueberries or azaleas (ammonium-based), per label. Never use nitrate fertilizers or lime, and avoid fresh manure and wood ash — alkalinity locks out iron and yellows the leaves.

Pruning & winter notes: Little pruning for the first two to three years beyond removing dead or weak twiggy growth and any flower buds the first season (this builds a stronger bush). After that, prune in late winter, removing the oldest, least productive canes at the base to renew the plant. Mulch heavily to protect the shallow roots; hardy in zones 4–8.

Pollination Info

Self-fertile, so one bush gives you pink berries. Berries are larger and crops heavier with a second blueberry variety nearby.
