Bare Root Pre-Order
Bare root trees are lifted from the nursery while they're dormant and shipped with no pot, no soil around the roots and no leaves. Planting a tree while it's asleep lets its roots settle into your soil before it has leaves to feed, which is why orchards have planted this way for generations. Order now to reserve your tree, and it ships in its seasonal window for your zone, so it reaches you at planting time. Choose from the Orient pear, Kieffer pear, Honeycrisp apple, Elberta peach, Violette de Bordeaux fig, Methley plum and Fuyu persimmon.
Common questions
What will I receive?
A dormant tree with bare roots, protected for the trip, and no leaves. It will look like a stick with roots, and that's normal. The size depends on the variety, and each product page lists it: for example, Orient pear, Methley plum and Fuyu persimmon ship at 4 to 5 ft, and Violette de Bordeaux fig at 2 to 3 ft.
When will my tree ship?
Bare root trees only ship while they're dormant, so your order is a reservation. Each tree ships in its seasonal window for your zone, and each product page shows that window. We email you before your tree ships, and again with the tracking number. Shipping is a flat $14.95 per order, free on orders of $149 or more.
What should I do when it arrives?
Open the box the same day and keep the roots moist. Never let them dry out. Soak the roots in water for a few hours, then plant as soon as the ground can be worked. Our step by step guide, How to Plant a Bare Root Fruit Tree, walks you through it.
What if my tree doesn't leaf out?
Bare root trees can take a while to wake up in spring, so give yours time. If it hasn't leafed out by June 1 after proper planting, we replace it or give you store credit. And if it arrives dead or badly damaged, email us photos within 48 hours of delivery and you choose a replacement or a refund under our Arrive Alive Guarantee.
